Michael Stoschek is a German collector and driver of historic racing cars as well as a successful entrepreneur in the automotive supply industry.
For him, the development and construction of a modern version of the Stratos represented the fulfillment of a long-held dream.
The project, developed during my activity as Special Projects Manager by Pininfarina, resulted in a modern interpretation of the glorious Lancia Stratos of the ‘70es, where all the quintessential design characteristics were respected:
the wedge-shaped body, the semi-circular windshield, the front end with its central radiator, the rear end with its round tail lights, the roof and rear spoiler and the five-star rims. The roll cage – made from 2.5 mm thick tubing, with a 40 mm diameter, and welded into the shortened aluminum chassis – was manufactured to current FIA standards. This not only improved safety for the vehicle occupants, but also significantly enhanced the handling precision. Despite the cage structure and the built-in air conditioning, by keeping the body, interior and almost all the components lightweight, the weight of the base vehicle could be kept at an absolute minimum.
Overall, engine performance was only slightly increased; however, thanks to the New Stratos’ minimal weight, excellent balance and new set-up, the vehicle delivered a truly extraordinary performance and unbelievable driving pleasure.
When I left Pininfarina and  started my career as a free lancer in 2009, I was recruited by Michael and Maximilian Stoschek as their consultant to the completion of the New Stratos Project.
At that time, it was a honor to support the  completion of a project  that I had managed in the previous years, in Pininfarina. Today, it is a honour  to be still a Consultant to Stoschek’s company, Brose GmbH. (pictures are courtesy from Mr. Michael Stoschek)
